December 1, 1998 For Immediate Release "Hanukah With Monica" The Season's Top Topical Hit New York, NY -- Two accomplished New York musicians, both Jews, have written and released "Hanukah With Monica," a topical, politically-themed holiday song which celebrates and bemoans the ongoing fascination the media and the American people have with Monica Lewinsky. "If you're sick of Monicagate, you'll love this song," says co-writer Sean Altman, who also produced "Hanukah With Monica." "I'm sure it's the first pop song ever to mention Yasser Arafat, oral sex, and Manischewitz wine." His collaborator, Rob Tannenbaum, adds, "This song is equal parts Tom Lehrer and 'Weird Al' Yankovic. I dare Kenneth Starr to subpoena us." A second seasonal song, "(It's Good To Be) A Jew At Christmas," also appears on the CD single, which is released by Big Sean Music and is only available at www.seanaltman.com. Sean Altman is a NYC-based singer-songwriter. As the former leader and founder of the beloved vocal group Rockapella, he recorded nine albums, toured the world, and starred in the five-year PBS-TV series Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, for which he wrote the infamous theme song. His concerts and his recent solo album, seanDEMOnium, have been glowingly profiled in Stereo Review, Time Out NY, Goldmine, Hits, Divorce Magazine and New York Press, where he was dubbed "the anti-Kurt Cobain." Altman regularly joins other NYC stars as part of the famed "Loser's Lounge" tribute series. He can still recite most of his bar mitzvah haftorah passage. Rob Tannenbaum is a contributing editor at Details magazine, where he has written eleven cover stories, including profiles of Cindy Crawford, Sean Penn, Uma Thurman and Leonardo DiCaprio (who greatly dislikes Rob). He has also written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, GQ, Entertainment Weekly, and lots of other magazines. In addition, Tannenbaum sings and writes in the rock band White Courtesy Telephone, whose first record, "Everything Is Fun," has drawn lots of raves, from the industry bible Billboard and Rolling Stone Online to CD-ROM 'zine Blender, which called it "a small masterpiece of rock 'n' roll psychodrama." He last went to temple in 1991, after praying to God during a hand of poker (he drew an ace of hearts to complete a flush). |
